TY - EJOUR AU - Irene Di Jorio T1 - Per combattere le voci del nemico TT - AB - In 1939 and 1940 France suffered a quick war and a devastating defeat. General Pétain made the decision to set a stop to the fightings and declared that the defeat was the result of a plot against France by “anti-french” forces such as communists, foreigners, jews and old, republican élite. The new “Vichy Regime” led by Pétain from Vichy in the “unoccupied” southern France, claimed that the only way to save France was to collaborate with the Germans. A “National Revolution” began, actually supporting the German occupants, using propaganda and censure as most important tools. However, Pétain and his regime did not succeed in changing the opinion of the public. The propaganda used by the French public power during the second world war is an example of how propaganda may actually not work as expected. AD - CY - Bologna DO - 10.1473/stor3
